Aurangabad is a city in Maharashtra, which has a lot of tourist spots which also includes some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
So my journey in Aurangabad started very recently in the month of June 2018. It was because of my profession that I had to shift to this place, and now its been more than three months that I am here and here I am to share my experience of this place.
The very first thing that comes to anyone's mind when we talk about Aurangabad is Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves. Many people have a perception that as the name of Ajanta and Ellora Caves are always taken together, they are very nearby, but that is not actually the case. Ellora caves is near the city whereas Ajanta is approximately 110km from the main city.
Very recently I visited some of the famous tourist spots here and I am going to share my experience of those.
So when my family was in town, we planned that we are going to cover Bibi Ka Maqbara in one day. Its also known as the "Deccan Taj". If we go into the history of it, it was built by Aurangzeb's son in the memory of his mother and has a resemblance with the famous Taj Mahal of Agra. This structure was actually designed by the son of the chief architect of Taj Mahal, Ata-Ullah. The entry tickets of this place is Rs 25 and it has different ticket fee for foreigners. The place is pretty well maintained, and in images its like almost replica of Taj Mahal. But actually, its not that huge, but it good enough and is one of the must visit in Aurangabad. This is how beautiful it is (image in the right side).
Next day we decided to visit Daulatabad Fort (also known as Devgiri Fort) and the Ellora caves. Daulatabad Fort is in the same route as the Ellora caves, so one can choose to visit it either on the way or while returning from the caves. We choose to first go to the Ellora cave. Ellora caves is about 25-30 km from the main city and it has around 100 caves inside. So to have a look into all the caves would take like an entire day. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Cave no 16 is a Kailash Temple and is a must visit even if anyone is planning to skip a few of the caves. Its one of the most popular tourist destination in Aurangabad, and thus is pretty crowded. the place again is very well maintained, with Rs 40 as an entry ticket for Indians. To start in the early morning is the best thing for this spot, as its completely open air, and thus becomes difficult to cover all the caves if the sun is just above the head in the afternoon.
Our next destination was Daulatabad Fort. The Fort looks very much shattered and broken from outside, but from inside, it's not that bad a state. Like any other Fort, it also has a very ancient historical significance attached to it. The entry fee here is again Rs 25 and its different for foreigners. Inside the premises of the fort, there are beautiful and well-maintained lawns. It has a huge area coverage. One can actually club to visit the Ellora caves and this Daulatabad Fort in a single day.
Apart form these three main tourist places which I have visited so far in Aurangabad, I have also visited the Prozone Mall. It was one of the largest and the First horizontally designed shopping malls in India. It has most of the major branded stores' outlets ranging from Reebok, Adidas, H n M, Westside, Biba and so on and so forth. It also has a nice food court and a theatre. Recently Barbecue
Nation has opened in the mall itself.
Also there are two outlets of D-Mart, one Reliance, Brand Factory, Big Bazar, More and Best Price. Thus there are a variety of shopping options out here. Apart from these, it has also a range of nice Hotels like Vivanta Taj, Lemon Tree, Bagga International, etc.
A variety of restaurants are also there like Amigos Kitchen, Hotel Panchvati, Kareemz, KFC, Dominos', Green Leaf, Yalla Yalla etc. There is a place called Gul Mandi, which is the hub of everything to shop in Aurangabad.
Aurangabad also has an airport and a railway station, but the major drawback is the mode of communication. The airport does not have direct flights to the majority of the places and also maximum flights have a very high fare. For Railways also its almost the same scenario, connectivity is not up to the mark.
Last but not least, its a dry and hot place, and it's dusty too. The localites are really helpful and cooperative.
So far, my discoveries about Aurangabad, I will keep posting as and when I come across something new!!
Till then Take Care <3
